Meaning: to consider danger in times of safety

Background: At the opening reception celebrating the 75th anniversary of the of People’s Republic of China, Xi gave a speech touting the past accomplishments of of the Party, emphasizing the “two miracles” of rapid economic development and long-term social stability. As he turned his focus to the bright future, he also urged people to plan for difficulties on the road ahead.

Usage: 居安思危 can be used to advise being vigilant in general when one’s life is going well, as well as in geopolitics speaking of national strategy like above.
